My name is Catherine Abwoyo and I'm originally from Uganda (East Africa). I came to the UK about three years ago due to the on-going insurgency in the northern part of Uganda which is my home. Leaving Uganda for another country was sad but was the safest thing I could do because of the situation. I lost my father and brother and all my relatives were displaced because of the war.

Coming to the UK as an Asylum seeker is emotionally challenging. Especially when you have no idea whether you are going to be accepted or rejected after years of waiting for a response from the given authorities. I must say I was lucky to have discovered Bang-Ed, a project set up to support and educate refugees and Asylum seekers and the community at large. To all the asylum seekers out there, getting involved with Bang-Ed will definitely change your life no matter your situation. You will get quality education on various interesting courses and also the full support of the Bang-ed staff. They are amazing people. I wish someone had told me about this project when I was new in the UK, what a difference it would have made.

I love so many things in this life but the one that tops them all is music. Since my childhood music has been my favourite.

I absolutely enjoy listening to music and I'm hoping to start producing my own. That's one of the reasons I enrolled for the music production course at Bang-ed. I'm keeping my dreams alive and like they say the sky is the limit.
